Hello World!

I think this is probably the most common heading for the first post of a new blog:  “Hello World”.  It has a long history as the first exposure anyone gets to a new technology, framework or computer language.  Since this is my first post in my first blog, it seems like an appropriate starting point.  I’m going to stick with it.

There are a few reasons that motivated me to start a blog.

Architecture Body of Knowledge

I was thinking back to the day when I was first given the title.  The question that was in my mind was simple:  What does an Architect do?

I’ve been at this profession for some time now, and while I don’t claim to be an expert, I have amassed some experience.  I think its about time that I write some of it down.

An Attempt to Explain

I have often said that while you may think that you know something, try explaining it to someone else.  Its really the litmus test of the thoughts in our heads.  If we can explain a topic to someone else and they get it, then we may actually have demonstrated mastery.  Its a test of knowledge that seems simple enough.

I wanted to start this blog in order to attempt to work through my own understanding of concepts.

Giving Back

I was looking at an organization that gives out official “Architect” designations.  One of the things that I was asked to provide was proof that I gave back to the community.  Part of the role of an Architect is to share knowledge.  A blog seems like a good way to do that.

Where will this go?

Who knows?  I certainly don’t.  I have no grand plan but I’ll give it a shot. This blog, not unlike building a new system, is a journey.  I’d like to see where it goes.
